"Where is my KSRTC" is an independent, unofficial project. It is not built, endorsed, or operated by Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) or by any third-party data provider. This policy covers the app and website only.
This app has no user accounts and no sign-in. Nothing here is tied to your name, email, or identity.
Your device location is used only to find buses and stops near you, and is sent to our backend only as plain latitude/longitude in that one request — never to any third-party data provider, and never stored on our server.
"I'm on the Bus" journey tracking: when you explicitly start a journey, the app follows your location continuously — including while your screen is off — so it can warn you before your stop. This runs only while a journey is active: a permanent notification is shown the whole time, "End trip" is always available, and tracking stops automatically on arrival or when you end it. Nothing about the journey is retained after it ends.
Sharing a bus position with other riders: while on a journey you can optionally share your bus's position (snapped to its route) so other riders waiting ahead can see it. This is off unless you turn it on, per journey. What is shared is a position and a route id — no name, account, or device identifier — and nothing that lets anyone trace it back to you. The record is deleted when your trip ends and ignored by other riders once it is more than about 90 seconds old.
Arrival and journey alerts are generated and shown entirely on your device. We do not use push notifications and no notification content is sent to or through our servers.
To understand how the app is used and to monitor reliability, we log anonymous, non-identifying events (e.g. "a bus was tracked", "nearby was viewed") and recent bus positions to a backend database. These events carry a random id generated on your device — never your name, account, or precise identity.
That is the same random id used for sponsored-pin counting, so those two records can be counted together — for example, to tell a shop how many separate devices saw their pin. It is still not linked to your name, your account, or any advertising ID, it is not shared with advertisers, and it is destroyed when you uninstall the app.
Pinned and recently tracked buses, your theme and map preferences, and your onboarding status are stored locally on your device (app storage / browser local storage) and are never uploaded. Uninstalling the app or clearing site data removes them permanently.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with data brokers.
The app carries two kinds of advertising, and they work very differently:
Every sponsored placement is marked “Sponsored”. They never change which buses, routes, stops, or arrival times the app shows you.
Your location is never sent to an advertiser. Deciding which shops are near enough to show happens inside our database: your coordinates go in, a short list of shops comes back, and nothing about your position is stored in that request.
When a sponsored placement is shown to you or you tap it, we record the campaign it belongs to, which screen it appeared on, and how far away the shop was — as a distance in metres, never as a location. The record carries a random identifier generated on this install, used only so that seeing the same pin all afternoon counts once per hour rather than hundreds of times. It is not an advertising ID, not a device fingerprint, and uninstalling the app destroys it.
Advertisers receive counts — how many times their placement was seen and tapped. They are never given your location, your identifier, or anything else about you. There is no cross-app tracking, no ad profile, and no data sold to anyone.
This app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change too. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
